What is Melanotan
Melanotan is chemically related to alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) and binds to receptors (melanocortin receptors) in human skin cells. This binding to α-MSH receptors plays a key role in determining skin and hair pigmentation, increasing melanin production in the skin, thereby causing a “tan.” Melanotan I (MT-1) specifically binds to the tanning receptor, resulting in fewer side effects. However, it requires higher doses to achieve the desired effect. Melanotan II binds to receptors beyond the tanning receptor, leading to more side effects.
Benefits of Melanotan II
Melanotan-II (MT-2) primarily functions to promote tanning. Tanning is the process by which skin produces more melanin when exposed to sunlight, resulting in a darker complexion. Melanotan (MT)-II stimulates melanocortin receptors to increase melanin production, helping individuals tan more quickly in sunlight. Subcutaneous injection of Melanotan aids in treating erectile dysfunction in men, enabling them to achieve and maintain erections, as well as enhancing libido.
Melanotan-II Dosage
Daily Dose: Begin with 250–500 micrograms; gradually increase based on tolerance, capping the daily dose at approximately 1–1.5 milligrams to minimize side effects.
Melanotan-II Side Effects
The use of Melanotan-II (MT-2) is not without risks. As an injectable medication, it may cause adverse reactions such as injection site pain, redness, swelling, and infection. Potential side effects include nausea, stomach cramps, decreased appetite, flushing, fatigue, yawning, skin darkening, spontaneous penile erections, and others. Some individuals, particularly those with fairer skin, may experience changes in existing moles, development of new moles, or skin cancer following Melanotan use.
